I’m really beginning to love weekends. I guess I’ve always loved weekends because they have been school-free zones, but now that they are also homework-free, they are even more enjoyable! This weekend came with the bonus of glorious weather, so we tried to spend as much time outside as possible.
On Friday evening, we headed to Sarah and Carlo’s house for dinner (dinner on the grill- a sure sign of summertime!) and then spent the rest of the evening making s’mores around the fire pit. I cannot tell you how fantastic it is to sit outside until 11 o’clock, just chatting and enjoying the weather. Thank you, summer, for finally arriving.
On Saturday, we headed to the Gorge with some friends from our small group, Dustin and Shelly, and their pal, Sarah. What a glorious day to be outside! We decided that if Saturday was actually going to be the end of the world, we’d be okay with spending our final hours hiking in the Gorge. I forgot how much I love the sun. And how wonderful it is to just be outside for a purpose other than running.
Our afternoon of hiking was followed by dinner at Miguel’s. If you’ve ever been the Gorge, you’ve probably enjoyed some of Miguel’s pizza. Dustin is kind of obsessed with Miguel’s (I dare say he would eat there every day if he could), so I think that might have been the real purpose of our hiking adventure. Luckily, Miguel’s did not disappoint. We were all starving by the time we got around to eating, so I’m sure that made our pizza taste even more wonderful.
We tried to spend some time outside on Sunday, as well, and ended up lounging around the Arboretum for an hour or two. Apparently everyone else in Lexington had the same idea, as the place was packed. But we were able to enjoy the sunshine, cool breeze, and the occasional hospital helicopter, along with some good reading material. We made it back to the apartment right before a big storm hit, which took out a tree in our apartment’s parking lot.
Unfortunately, we’re back to the work week. But it’s a short week for us. We’re headed to Baton Rouge this week for Becca Sloane’s wedding! Long live the weekend!
