We picked up our second share of produce from Three Springs Farm yesterday. Our CSA share brings us a basket full of fresh food every other week. So far, some of the foods have been complete mysteries to me. Luckily, the farm sends out an e-mail with recipe ideas for the lesser known ingredients (anyone ever heard of kohlrabi?), so we have some serving suggestions for the mystery selections.
You can read about our first CSA basket here.
This week’s basket was more exciting than the first because it included strawberries! I love, love, love berries. I wish we could sign up for a CSA that just distributed berries. Or, even better, I wish we had a garden to grow our own berries. Maybe some day…
Here’s what we got in our CSA basket this week:
-green bibb lettuce
-red romaine lettuce
We also purchased a block of cheese from the dairy that Three Springs Farm partners with and sells at the market. I think Eric was more excited about the crazy cheese than he was about any of the vegetables.
From what I understand, kohlrabi leaves are similar to kale, so we can cook those or eat them raw. The kohlrabi bulb should be peeled, and then can be sliced and eaten raw. Or there are a million ways to cook it. I even found a recipe for a kohlrabi ham bake. I think our dining experience is about to get more adventurous.
If you have any suggestions of ways to eat all of this goodness, our bellies would greatly appreciate your input!
