When it comes to Harry Potter, we have this little tradition with two of our best friends at home. Each time a new movie comes out, we have a Harry Potter movie marathon, where we watch all of the previously released movies in a row before going to see the newest one. Obviously, this has become a bit time consuming, as each movie is around 2 1/2 hours long.
Matt and Eric both have all of the movies practically memorized, whereas Kayla and I can only remember a little of each one. This left us with a constant stream of questions of, “Which movie is the one where….?” It turns out that everything we remember is from the third or fourth movie (known as “the one where they time travel” and “the one with the Olympics”, respectively), which I suppose makes sense, as we’ve seen those about 5 times each. Luckily, Matt is always able to explain every aspect of the movies, as well as point out the discrepancies between the movies and the books.
We began our movie marathon on Friday around 9:30 pm. Although we all made it through the first movie, I’m afraid that it’s possible that we all may have kind of slept through a majority of the second one. Whoops.
We watched five movies on Saturday. Let me tell you, it is hard to sit through five movies, even when they are as epic as Harry Potter. We took a few breaks for meals and to take a walk around the neighborhood. Otherwise, we sat and sustained ourselves on chocolate.
The final Harry Potter marathon came to an epic end with a viewing of the final installment on Sunday afternoon. Wow. What a movie. We laughed. We almost cried. We fist pumped. It was epic.
So, 19 hours and 39 minutes later, the Harry Potter marathon is over. And now what? Eric asks what we should do about Harry Potter with future generations. Do we let them read all of the books and watch all of the movies at once? Or should we release things to them one at a time, spread out amongst 7 years? I vote for the latter. Keep the magic alive.

[…] which I can probably blame on the fact that I’ve only ever watched the movies during our Harry Potter movie marathon weekends, where we would sit and watch 20-something hours worth of movies while consuming all the junk food […]
