It’s been a busy month! My poor computer took its last breath this month, so we ordered a new MacBook Pro! Woo! It is wonderful to have a computer that can be unplugged! (Mine would die as soon as it was taken off the charger.) But now I have a whole new operating system to figure out, which has left me feeling a bit old and outdated. I’m afraid technology has passed me by.
We’ve also been doing a lot of weekend traveling, and the weekdays have been full with work and cooking and cleaning! I honestly have no idea how busy people ever get anything done.
Anywho, despite all the busyness, August is one of my favorite months of the year, for several reasons:
1. We got married in August!
2. The Ringer family lake trip.
3. The first non-90-degree days of the summer!
We’ve been celebrating all of these things over the past few weeks. And since I’m so behind on blogging, I’ll throw them all together into one spectacular post.
Eric and I celebrated our one-year anniversary a few weekends ago. We wanted to do something fun, so we decided to take a train ride. We drove down to Stearns, KY (where the radio plays Bluegrass music) and hopped aboard the Big South Fork Scenic Railway, which took us into the Daniel Boone National Forest. The ride was really beautiful (and would probably be even more beautiful with some autumn foliage), if not a bit rocky and shaky. The train took us to an old coal mining camp, which has been turned into a history center of sorts. We had about 1 1/2 hours to explore the camp before taking the train back to Stearns. The camp, itself, wasn’t incredibly exciting, but it looked like they had some good hiking trails around there. But riding a train through the forest was pretty darn cool. And we got to stop and eat at Cracker Barrel and Sonny’s BBQ on the way there and back, which makes any day spectacular.
This past weekend, we went to Nolin Lake with the Ringer family. There are few things better than a weekend at the lake. Swimming, boating, sleeping, reading, eating, dancing. It’s all wonderful. And it is all best enjoyed in a beautiful lake house with perfect views of the water. This was a perfect last hoorah for the family, as Eric’s parents are moving to San Diego next week! It was great to have lots of together time to play games, lounge around, and catch up on life. Plus, it’s always super fun to spend time with my hilarious sisters-in-law, Laura and Becky. They are a hoot. I’m so blessed to have them!
And we had perfect weather for the lake! It’s usually 90-something degrees at this point in August, but we were blessed with cooler temperatures that made sitting outside so comfortable! Of course, it made a morning kayaking trip a bit on the chilly side, but that only made me paddle harder to get warm.
Unfortunately, we’ve returned to real life, where there are no boats or lakes or afternoon naps. But we are planning our first vacation very soon! More on that later!
Happy August!
