Aside from our themed Christmas extravaganza, we had a few more celebrations in store for the holiday season. We celebrated Christmas with my parents and sister on Christmas Eve morning, the first Christmas in my parents’ new house in Tennessee. Luckily, Matt Wertz released a Christmas album this year with a song titled, “Tennessee Christmas,” which I kindly sang the entire weekend.
After our family celebration, we headed to Louisville for I’ll Be Gnome For Christmas. Afterwards, we convinced my parents that we should spend the night in our old house, one last time. Unfortunately, there isn’t any furniture there; but in my opinion, that made it all the more exciting. So we packed our sleeping bags and a shower curtain (thanks to my mom’s ability to plan ahead), and camped out in the old living room. It sounds ridiculous, but there’s nothing quite like a family slumber party.
On Christmas afternoon, we celebrated with my mom’s side of the family, where we all wore human (non-gnome) attire.
We spent the next two days in Tennessee with my parents, where we enjoyed the sights of Nashville. We headed to the Opryland Hotel to see all of the Christmas lights. Let me tell you, this place is insane at Christmas. Well, it’s kind of insane any time of the year, but it’s just super fun and festive at Christmas. Tons and tons and tons of lights, a huge Christmas tree, and a zillion decorations. It’s definitely something to see if you’re in Nashville this time of the year.
I also convinced my parents to go on a tour of the Belmont Mansion, which is a 19th century home on Belmont’s campus. I just love historic homes, and after spending this summer volunteering as a tour guide at a museum here in Lexington, I get a big kick out of going on tours. This place was also ridiculously decked out for Christmas, and while I wouldn’t consider 19th century decor my personal taste, it’s really beautiful and interesting. Now if only the historic homes in Lexington would let me take a look around…
We spent the rest of the break eating and playing card games. A pretty good Christmas break, if I may say so.
There’s much excitement to come around here because the Campbells are coming to visit in just 2 short days! I can hardly wait!
