While Eric builds super awesome furniture, I spend my free time constructing food.
This incredibly overwhelming burger was the product of intense hunger, having a lot of fresh ingredients that needed to be used immediately, and having no self-control when it comes to burger toppings. If you ever reach this perfect combination, please make this burger. It’s so good.
To get started, I made a turkey burger patty. This is mostly because I’m not real fond of ground beef, unless it’s on Alfalfa’s Alfa Burger, which is the best burger on the entire planet (and the only ground beef burger I’ve ever loved). I added in some Famous Dave’s Rib Rub seasoning, which is one of our favorite ways to season meat around here. It’s good on everything. Seriously. And I added some chives from our garden (one of only two surviving herbs. Rest in peace, cilantro.). And because I’m really wild, I mixed in some black beans. I ate a burger made of black beans a few months ago, and it was seriously incredible. Rather than trying to trick Eric into eating a vegetarian burger, I opted for just adding some black beans to the ground turkey. It was a good choice.
So, to recap, the burger itself consists of ground turkey, Famous Dave’s Rib Rub, chives, and black beans.
Then you get the toppings. This is where I went overboard. But it was such a good way to go overboard. If I may recommend a perfect order for your toppings, this would be it:
- provolone cheese (put in on the burger during the last minute of grilling)
- bacon
- grilled red onion
- roasted red peppers
- cilantro
- avocado
- lettuce
Sandwich all of this awesomeness between some whole wheat buns. And don’t forget to stick those on the grill, as well. It’s a fantastic decision that will change your burger-eating life.
Don’t expect this to be incredibly easy to eat. This burger is tall. And if it’s anything like the ones I made, it will fall over as soon as you try to take a picture, spilling your toppings all over your plate.
Hope you’ll enjoy some grilling this season (even if you’re stuck inside using a grill pan)!
