Each New Year’s Eve Eve, a group of our friends gathers at a cabin in the woods to reconnect, share stories, and reflect on the past year. I was afraid that we were going to miss the celebration this year because we moved so far away, but thanks to my sister getting married at the beginning of January, we got to spend a week in Kentucky!
The cabin was undergoing renovations last year, so it had been a while since we’d popped into the cutest little cabin in the woods. But our cute little cabin has been transformed into a very impressive, much larger cabin in the woods that has somehow managed to keep the cozy feeling of a tiny home. But oh my goodness. This place is gorgeous.
After we got over the shock of how much bigger and more beautiful the cabin was this year, we got down to business. Each year, everyone at the party has to share three things:
1. The best memory of the past year.
2. The funniest memory of the past year.
3. What they are looking forward to in the year to come.
I shared the story of our cross-country road trip (specifically our stay in the Grand Tetons) as my favorite memory, and the tale of Jerry, the bed and breakfast, and the empty restaurant as my funniest. I’m always terrible at coming up with a good funny story. I resolve to be better at that this year.
Our group of friends has some pretty great story tellers, so we always end up cracking up at all of the hilarious memories. I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again; we have some incredibly talented and wonderful friends. And we feel incredibly blessed by their friendships and this annual celebration. Here’s to many more New Year’s Eve Eve fiestas!
