The two-year-old girl that I watch on a daily basis says hilarious stuff all the time. I think it’s mostly because she just repeats everything adults say, and we all know that adult speak is way funnier when it comes out of a kid’s mouth.
Of course, this is why I think these macaroni and cheese commercials are hilarious.
Anywho, back to real children. When Lucy walked down the stairs the other morning, she saw all of her toy animals sitting on the table. Let’s keep in mind that these little animals are on her little table every single morning. But she exclaimed, “Oh my goodness! So many animals!” and shook with excitement.
Anytime children eat food, adults ask them if it is yummy. I am equally guilty of doing this, but I’ve been trying to stop myself, as it generally doesn’t get much more than a little “uh-huh” from this particular toddler. The other day, I was eating my peanut butter and jelly sandwich. Of course, children are lunch time bullies and always try to steal my food. I always get the “Lucy have some?” question from this particular child, as she speaks of herself in the third person. All the time. Anywho, I gave her a piece of my pb&j. She chewed it up, looked up at me, and yelled, “I love it!” Hilarious.
She speaks to her baby sister just as adults speak to a crying baby. “Oh, little baby. Are you sad, little baby? Don’t be sad, little baby.” It’s precious. Until she tries to hug the baby and ends up getting her hair pulled out, which is a common occurrence with this mightily strong baby. If the left side of my head is bald in a month, it’s because I always hold the baby on my left side.
And if none of these stories strike you as cute, try picturing a tiny two-year-old decked out in all pink (every single day), jumping up and down. Because that’s what my life is like. All day. Every day.

Oh wow!! How adorable!! Now here’a a present you can give to the parents. Get a journal – it can be as simple as a spiral notebook – and write down these adorable things she says and does. Keep it handy when you are there. Write down the date and record what she says and does. When you are no longer nannying for them, give them the journal. They will adore this gift!!!
This is my most precious possession in our family. It is hilarious to get it out and read the funny things the kids said!
