We’ve spent the past few days celebrating Eric’s 25th birthday. This year, celebrating mostly involved massive quantities of food, thanks to an incredible BBQ pulled pork pizza at The Granary, a peanut butter pie and a mixed berry pie in honor of Pi Day (and Eric’s birthday), and some homemade blueberry cake donuts. Hopefully, the 25th year is not when the metabolism shuts down.
I had a lot of free time this week, so I hunkered down with some episodes of Arrested Development (preparing for the new episodes coming in May!) and Parks and Rec while I whipped up a few giant pom poms for birthday decor. Back in college, when I lived in a house full of girls, each birthday would bring about a bunch of ridiculously hilarious birthday signs and streamers hung about the house, along with a room full of balloons. So I feel like some sort of decor is necessary for birthday celebrations. And honestly, we’ve had this huge blank space above our television since we moved in 6 months ago, and I just can’t commit to hanging anything there permanently. So for now, this burst of color will do nicely.
In case you’re interested in making some giant pom poms for your home decor (because tissue paper pom poms scream “high class”), I used this tutorial, but I skipped the florist wire and just tied everything together with dental floss.
We started our birthday celebration on Pi Day (3.14), so it was only appropriate that we served two different pies for birthday dessert (a marionberry/strawberry/blueberry pie and a peanut butter pie with an oreo crust). You’ll notice in the photo below that we only ended up lighting 5 birthday candles because apparently I bought crazy candles that melt at an unbelievable pace.
After a dinner with friends on Thursday night, we spent Eric’s actual birthday playing frisbee and taking a walk in the gorgeous weather. Happy, happy birthday to my sweet, handsome husband!
