We’re in Kentucky, folks. And it feels so good.
We landed late last night, drove an hour to Lexington while dancing to hip-hop music (do you know how much fun music you are missing by being asleep between the hours of 11 pm and 1 am?) and pointing out (okay, yelling out) everything we recognized that we don’t have in Oregon (Chick Fil’A! Meijer! Fazolis! Non-pot-holed-roads! Deciduous trees!). Then we woke up at what felt like 4 am to our west coast bodies and started the excellent food and friends journey that will be the next few days. It’s the best.
We had breakfast at North Lime Coffee and Donuts with my sister, who we haven’t seen since her wedding in January. Have I mentioned how much I miss living in the same city as my sister? In the past 9 years, we’ve lived in the same city for one year. It was a good year.
After some quality sister time, we had lunch at Bourbon n’ Toulouse with Ryan, Jared, and Taylor, followed by much missed ice cream at Graeters. I am a total ice cream snob (I’ve stopped trying to hide it), and I have really missed having awesome ice cream anytime I want. And I’ve missed sharing that ice cream with fun friends like these guys.
Then we got to spend a tiny bit of time with these folks, who we have missed so much over the past 11 months. Dustin and Shelly are the bomb.
We spent our evening at a rehearsal dinner at Talon Winery (we are in town for a wedding, after all), where we previewed what will be a gorgeous wedding tomorrow! And we watched the sunset over a barn while catching up with old friends. A perfect Kentucky moment.
We’re glad to be back in our old Kentucky home.
