We stayed local for our last day with Eric’s parents in Eugene. After a trip to the coast and to the Cascade Mountains, we wanted to show them a little of the actual town where we live.
We started with breakfast at Hideaway Bakery, followed by a walk around Hendricks Park (which is far less exciting when the rhododendrons aren’t in bloom). Then we took a trip to Sweet Cheeks Winery to enjoy a picnic and mimosa Sundays.
After filling up on mimosas and snacks, we headed to Spencer Butte for a hike. For the record, I wouldn’t recommend hiking after mimosas. I’d recommend napping.
Generally, when we hike Spencer Butte, we do a 6-ish mile hike from the Willamette Trailhead. We wanted something a little faster this time around, so we opted for a 2-mile hike from the South Willamette Trailhead. Now, we thought that a shorter route would start a little further up the mountain. It turns out that the route was 4 miles shorter because it just goes straight up the side of Spencer Butte. Whoops. So we panted through a 700-foot straight climb. Luckily, the view from the top was the clearest we’ve ever seen it, so I can almost say it was worth the sweat.
We took the longer way down the butte to avoid sliding straight down the side, and spent the rest of the evening relaxing with some well-deserved ice cream.
We’re so glad we could host Eric’s parents for a few days! The Ringer B&B is always open for visitors (hint, hint, friends and family)!

Yeah…that climb was certainly challenging to say the least! And since there was no helicopter to get us off the top of the butte I’m so glad there was an alternate way down! We LOVED all the hikes, scenery, little towns, playing games and yummy food. Fun sharing time with you! Wish we were closer but so glad you are on the west coast at least!!

Found your blog after searching for hikes. Read thru some of it because I live your pictures, writing style and recipes (share more!).
Can’t wait to hear where you go exploring next. (From a native Oregonian who needs to get our more:) )
