our european extravaganza.

In hopes of not actually forgetting this entire European excursion, I’m sharing the photos and highlights from our autumn trip to London, France, and Switzerland. Eric had to go to London and France for work (tough stuff, but somebody has to do it), so I tagged along and made a grand little vacation out of it.
London
This was our first visit to London, and pretty much everything we knew going in was from either Harry Potter or The Crown. So here’s Eric on that bridge from Harry Potter:
The weather was pretty “meh” while we were there, so the photos aren’t particularly gorgeous or anything, but I will say that I liked London a lot more than I expected. Not being a big city loving gal, I was surprised how much I enjoyed walking around the city.
And here’s me in front of Buckingham Palace (obviously heavily featured on The Crown):

In a continuation of the summer of reunions with old friends, we took a little trip down to Crater Lake National Park to meet up with the Pugels. Dustin and Shelly are some of our dear pals from our Kentucky days. Apparently we hadn’t seen each other in THREE YEARS, so this reunion was extra…
apricot lane farms.
As one of my “last hoorahs” before starting grad school (next week!), I took a little trip down to southern California to visit one of my college pals, Mallory. Mal lives and works at Apricot Lane Farms, an amazing biodynamic, organic farm outside of LA. After years of promising to make a visit, I finally…
colorado (part 2).
Colorado is pretty cool. We spent a week in the Vail Valley with our pals, the Bloems, for our annual Blinger adventure of hiking, eating, strolling, and laughing. (You can read about the first half of our trip here.)
colorado (part 1).
We had the privilege of kicking off the month of June by visiting our old pals Megan and Jordan, and their new little fella, Simon, in Colorado. We first met when Eric and Jordan started grad school together in Eugene way back in 2012. Now that we live pretty far apart (Portland and Chicago), it’s…
long live the three-day weekend.

As someone who feels the average weekend flies by far too quickly, I love three-day weekends with all of my heart. This Memorial Day weekend was full of hiking, biking, and eating almost every meal outside. It’s what we call summertime perfection.

Hey, Washington! We live in Portland, which is at the top of Oregon, separated from Washington by only a river (and generally, a lot of traffic). But we constantly forget that Washington is available at our leisure. Last weekend, we finally got around to visiting a Washington park that has been on our list for…

Oh, Italy, how you played with our hearts. Let’s back up. We just had an amazing time in clean, orderly, expensive, Switzerland. Then we rented a car (because taking public transportation would have been a 24-hour ordeal for what could be driven in 6 hours for far less money) and drove down to Italy. As…
mürren, switzerland.
And now for our favorite portion of the Eurotrip: Mürren, Switzerland! When you think of Switzerland, this is the kind of place you picture. Mountains, waterfalls, cows, wildflowers, chalets. Swiss perfection. We took a series of trains from Geneva to Lauterbrunnen (fully checking off my “ride a train from one place to another” bucket list…
switzerland: geneva and lausanne.

Hey, Switzerland! So, the whole reason we got to go to Europe was because Eric had a conference to attend in Geneva. Switzerland has been on the top of our travel wish list for quite a while, and we really, really, really lucked out with a trip working out this spring (especially since I had…
chamonix, france.
So, we’re in Europe. Let’s all just let that sink in for a minute. I realize that Europe is a pretty common travel destination, and most American youths wind up in Europe sometime during or after college. But this American youth didn’t get that super exciting experience, so the fact that we are currently sitting…
