I suppose a better title for this post would be “What we’ll miss about Louisville,” as none of the people involved in this post actually live in Lexington. But I guess one of the things we’ll miss about Lexington is the proximity of Lexington to Louisville, and therefore the proximity to all of these wonderful people.
We visited some friends from home this weekend, where we ate more and laughed harder than we have in quite a while. It was great. We’re really going to miss the comfort and familiarity of old friends.
We got to Louisville on Friday night and enjoyed dinner with our friends (and absolutely wonderful hosts), Ben and Izabella. Ben was a groomsman in our wedding, and they got married just a few weeks after us. It was great to catch up with them and play with their super cute puppy (yes, I did just admit to liking a dog). I should also point out that their dog absolutely hated Eric and absolutely loved me. It was hilarious.
On Saturday, we drove into the middle of nowhere, Kentucky to visit our pal, Matt (who we’ve known since elementary school, I suppose). He is a youth minister and he is awesome. After over an hour of driving and misdirection from the GPS that almost led us into a campsite and then an armed military zone, we finally found Matt and got to catch up on his life. It was great.
On Saturday night, we had dinner at Mark’s Feed Store in Louisville with Ben and Izabella, Matt and Kayla, and Drew and Katie, friends that are all strangely connected (and some are related). After dinner, we indulged in some gelato in Norton Commons, the cutest place on earth, while we laughed and laughed and laughed.
And on Sunday morning, we were super pumped to visit Sojourn Community Church one last time before the big move. We love that place.
After bidding our wonderful hosts goodbye, we took a trip to our old houses (both of our parents moved away last summer) and drove by a few of our old hometown places. We stopped at Eric’s high school, which looks completely different now that it has been renovated. We both got to feeling pretty nostalgic about Kentucky and all of the people and places we’ll miss.
You can read more about what we’ll miss about Lexington (and Kentucky, in general) here. We’re a little over a month away from moving to Oregon, so we’re hoping to live it up for these last few weeks!

Ah….you are so wise to go around and savor these treasured people and experiences! They are wonderful! Now…having moved across country three times…I’ve learned not to say, “I miss….” What happens is I start feeling melancholy, nostalgic, and a little regretful. So I say, “I have fond memories of…” Or, “I think affectionately about…” That way I still treasure and value the people and memories but I also give myself permission to enjoy my new experiences and the new people I meet. Just a little way I’ve learned to make change more exciting!!
I know you are looking forward to the new experiences and savoring these familiar people and places will help you see that wherever you go….you are the kind of people who will draw wonderful people and experiences to you!!! You’re just that special!
