School is back in session, so Ally-days are back in full force. Ally-days are the wonderful Saturdays during the school quarters when Eric leaves his homework at home and we spend the day doing something exciting together.
For our first Saturday of the winter term, we decided to hike. I should mention that it was below freezing for most of the day on Saturday, but the sun was out in full force. And it’s like an unwritten rule around here that if the sun has chosen to show itself during the winter, you will go outside to enjoy it. So we, along with dozens of other Oregonians, flocked to Mount Pisgah for a hike to the summit.
We took trail #2 (Beistel’s East Summit Trail), which is a 2.5 mile hike up Mt. Pisgah (5 miles, round-trip). The last half mile up was brutal. I don’t know if we are still suffering from the effects of the 12 days of Christmas cookies, but I tell you what, I was winded.
If I may make a recommendation, you should only do this hike on a clear day. Without the view from the summit, this would have been just a long, steep hike. But on this beautiful clear day, we had incredible views of the Cascade mountains that made it all worth it.
Eric had the brilliant idea to take some hot chocolate with us in his new Stanley Thermos (thanks, Mom and Dad!), and I am pleased to report that it was still very hot when we reached the summit. Hot chocolate pairs perfectly with snowy mountain views, if I may say so.
Happy hiking!

I think we might need to bring little Joffre up there soon, do you think he could handle it?
ericandally says
Oh yeah. Joffre is young and agile. Plus, his ever-lengthening legs should help him up the hills!

Love these pictures. 95% of the time I come here for a laugh, and 100% of the time I always come away in awe of your pictures. Math doesn’t have to add up.
You da bomb.
