Guys, Eric and I celebrated our sixth wedding anniversary at the beginning of August. Six years! In some ways, I feel like we’ve been married forever (we’re going on 10 years of togetherness, after all), but I also feel like our wedding was yesterday. But all 6 years have been pretty spectacular.
I think year 6 has been one of the most exciting of all, with travel as the name of the game. These are just a few highlights from the past year of marriage:
As has become a blog tradition, let’t take a fun stroll down anniversary memory lane:
Wedding Day: We got married on the porch of Locust Gove, a beautiful historic home in Louisville, Kentucky. Even after 6 years, I still think this was the best party I’ve ever been to! I can’t get over how much we look like babies in our wedding photos.
First Anniversary: We were living in Lexington, Kentucky, and celebrated our anniversary with a train ride on the Big South Fork Scenic Railway through Daniel Boone National Forest. (Read about it here.)
Second Anniversary: We were still living in Lexington (just weeks away from our cross-country move), and celebrated with a fancy dinner downtown (at a restaurant that no longer exists), and a spontaneous trip to Charleston, South Carolina.
Third Anniversary: We were living in Eugene, Oregon and took a little getaway to the Lost Coast of California, where we hiked in the sand, picked apples, ate steak, and visited the Redwoods. Basically, it was glorious. (Read about it here and here.)
Fourth Anniversary: We were living in Eugene, just about to move up to Portland. We celebrated our anniversary with a hike to the summit of the South Sister in the Central Oregon Cascades.
Fifth Anniversary: We were living in Portland, and Eric had just broken his collarbone in a bicycle crash (hence the sling). Since the poor guy was still hopped up on painkillers, we celebrated with a picnic dinner at the Vista House while we watched the sun set over the Columbia River.
This year, I was about halfway through my first quarter of grad school, so we took a little weekend getaway to the McKenzie River for some Olympics watching, river wading, lots of running, and good eating. We drove into Eugene for dinner on the town at Board, which was AMAZING. (Also, Eugene, I still love you so much.)
Here’s to so many more years of life with this fella!
