This has been a somewhat frantic month of trips to Portland, apartment hunting, working strange hours, attempting to rid ourselves of everything that won’t fit in the new apartment, organizing, making messes, marathon training, and general exhaustion.
But it’s also been a delightful month of reading in the hammock, taking evening strolls, planning future adventures, and visiting with friends.
We don’t get a ton of visitors from home all the way out here, so when people come to town, we make sure we get to see them (even if it means driving 4 hours in one evening). We met two of our friends in Portland for dinner at Bollywood Theater and ice cream at What’s the Scoop? this week. It was delightful. Lindsay was one of my college roomies, and Taylor lived down the hall from us when we first got married (even though we determined that we never actually saw one another’s apartments, oddly enough). I cannot even tell you how excited I was to see their familiar faces and catch up on life. Thanks for making time to see us! You guys are the best!
And in an attempt to embrace all this summer sunlight before it disappears in a few months, we went out for an evening hike this week. This was super crazy for us because generally once we eat dinner, we’re in for the night. (Obviously, our social lives have become very exciting since most of our friends moved away.) But we went for a quick hike up Spencer Butte, opting to take the main route, which I have somehow never hiked despite having been there a dozen times or so. The view from the top was a bit less stellar than on previous visits, due to the clouds and drizzle, but it’s always beautiful, even if the snow-capped Cascades are hidden by the clouds.
Here’s to summer. May it never end.
